At the 20th Commemorative Annual General Assembly held in October 2019, Dr. Sasakawa, the Honorary Chair of IAMU, declared the establishment of the Nippon Foundation-International Association of Maritime Universities (NF-IAMU) Fellowship Programme for students and young academic staff in IAMU member universities that embody the Global Maritime Professional (GMP) Initiative and incorporate the GMP Body of Knowledge into their curricula.
